As snowfall clean up continues for city crews in Estevan, it also continues for home owners and those involved with the snow removal industry.

According to Chiropractor, David Peeace at King Street Chiropractic, there are several things to keep in mind before heading outside and putting stress on your body.

"Make sure you have really good footwear, it could be slippery and a slip and fall could also cause some issues. Taking regular breaks and making sure you stay hydrated is important."

Peeace shared a number of suggestions on how to avoid injuries when shoveling, including simple things like taking your time, keeping a good pace, making sure your shovel loads aren't too heavy and when possible, trying to push the snow instead of shoveling and lifting it.

He also pointed out a significant health concern for those who may over exert themselves when removing snow.

"The one real dangerous thing that I think everyone should be aware of especially with it being cooler is that shoveling puts a tremendous load on our hearts, so if you ever start feeling shoulder, chest or arm pain, stop immediately and see a medical professional as soon as you can. Unfortunately this is the time where heart issues can become a bit of a problem," Peeace concluded.
