Choose Life Ministry recently received a boost form the Estevan Lions Club in the form of a $1,500 donation.

"We were pleasantly surprised that we were one of the recipients," explained Shelley Boyes, Executive Director, "and because we are in the homestretch of having our home for young women ready to go, it's very much needed at this time and very much appreciated and will go a long way to helping us get our program up and running."

She adds that the organization has been in operation for five and a half years.

"Our mission is to help young women who are struggling with life controlling issues, things like drugs and alcohol abuse, eating disorders, depression, effects of abuse, self harm, those kinds of things."

"Our residence is up and operating, we're just in the process of receiving applications and are very excited to be able to start rolling."

The program is a six month, free of charge program for young women. The women come and stay and receive the help that they need. She also mentioned that they are also in the process of renovating a larger facility.

"It is a stone house that will house six women. And that's where the donation from the Lions Club will be going. We are very close to completion. At this point, all the drywall is in, it needs to be primed and painted. Then we need to do the floor covering and the cupboards and all of the finishing."

Next fundraising event for the group will be the 6th Annual Choose Life Ministry Red Carpet Event on Friday, September 22.

Tickets are available at Second Chance Thrift stores in Estevan and Carlyle.
