City Council met on Monday night to discuss a short list of items on their agenda.

The city accepted the "3/4 Minus Gravel Tender" that was awarded to Glen Peterson Construction for $18 per cubic yard. The total was noted as $45,000 before taxes.

"Every fall we request gravel for the winter and sometimes for the summer if we have a lot of rain," explained Mayor Roy Ludwig. "So then so we need the stock pile at city yard and we draw that down through the winter and spring so we have to replenish it every year."

Another item up for discussion was the Community Grants and City Funding Policy.

"Council didn't want a lot of these smaller requests coming to council. They wanted it dealt with a small committee which now we have and as long as they are within the budgeted amounts, they are now dealing with it at the council level. The smaller request that come every year, they would be looked at by the committee."

"Our present council feel it's very important to promote events from time to time that benefit the community. We felt the Summer Games and the Western Canada Cup were great events. In certain cases where it is a benefit to the community we will be there to work with them."

The Mayor also accepted a motion to proclaim the week of October 16-22 as waste reduction week in the City of Estevan.

"It's something we continue to be in favor of keeping our community and country green. It's important to do what we can on the waste removal and recycling side to keep step with what's happening on the world stage."

Councellor Greg Hoffart also brought up the success of the Living Skies Airshow and noted a profit was able to be made on the event.
