City Council is looking forward to resuming their meetings after the New Year. After what could be considered, a challenging year, councilors are taking stock of 2017.

"I think it's been another solid year," explained City Councillor, Greg Hoffart. "A year of continued improvement and I, certainly as a councillor, don't take any of the credit for that."

"The council has put an exceptional managerial team in place that is really starting to do some exceptional work in our community. And that's right from fiscal management to cleaning up the city to green space, to roads and streets to recreation, the management team and the staff of our organization is certainly the key to the progress we make."

He noted however, that there are significant challenges that council must face this year.

"Our challenge is always fiscal management. It's trying to live within our means to do all we can within our budget to recognize that we still have a large debt to tackle and that debt remains a primary impediment to a lot of progress that we try and make in the city. Having said that, you can't let the city stand still while we're tackling that. You have to find ways to continue the progress which we've made in the last few years while balancing the budget."

"While recognizing our community is going through a down turn in the economy. It's about being creative and at times, thinking outside of the box and finding new ways to achieve the goals within the fiscal reality that we're faced with."

City Council meets for the first time in 2018 on Monday, January 8th.
