There is no rest for city crews in Estevan. Now that the snow has been cleared off and hauled away, they are busy making sure the drains are clear for the runoff.

"Now with the sunshine so strong right now," shared Norm Mack, Estevan's Roads and Drainage Manager, "it won't take much to thaw what's left on the city streets. So they're just going around and opening up some catch basins where there's going to be a little bit of water."

"Our catch basins are generally opened with a long crowbar or we have a portable steamer. Sometimes the pipes inside under the infrastructure are frozen so we go down with a long hose and steam them out."

He added that many catch basins generally open without help.

"It's just a few problem areas. We jump from place to place wherever there is water building up and we either steam them or pick the ice off the top through the catch basin lid and open them that way."
