The upcoming proposed city budget for Estevan has plans for upgrades to some of the green spaces in Estevan.

"Rod (City Parks Manager, Rod March) has done a great job over the last couple years," shared City manager, Jeff Ward, "to make sure that sure that if we're going to have these parks that they're well maintained, that they're up to standard."

"Recently there's been some regulations set forth by Public Health in regards to the outdoor pool facilities, the paddling pools. We did receive a grant of $15,000 to redo the lining at Hillcrest play-park. It's a total cost of $50,000 so it will be a net cost of $35,000 but then that pool will be sufficient to operate throughput the year."

Another issue is Kensington Greens which will be a two part process.

"That's a large park in behind Petterson, it's in the Trojan are. Unfortunately, when it was developed, it's got a very low grade from east to west so what happens is that water and the alkali sit and it makes it very hard for grass or any greenery to grow. So it doesn't look very appealing."

"Rod has come up with a plan to this first year, to do some site grading into a sanitary line that will actually get the water and the salts from that area so it can actually flourish and have some growth. That will be the first phase, to fix the irrigation and the water settling."

"Then hopefully going into next year, there is a whole rehabilitation of park structure, spray park potentially. There's a lot of families, a lot of houses over there so I think it's imperative that they have a facility that they can use with their families."

City Council meets on Monday, January 22nd at City Hall.
