The City of Estevan has made it easier to get the word out in times of emergency. They have joined with the SaskAlert app and will now be able to upload messages and alerts should an emergency occur within the city.

"What happens is we'll be able to put our own City of Estevan alerts on there," explained City Safety Officer, and EMO, Helen Fornwald.

"It's the SaskAlert app, which means that if we need to have a boil water advisory, or wind warning, or storm warnings or anything like that, anyone who has a telephone, that downloads the app will get that alert."

With that alert, Fornwald shared that there will be instructions on what steps to take in an emergency such as evacuations notices and where to evacuate.

"So we're encouraging all residents to download this free app who have a cellphone."
