The City of Estevan is hoping to drum up for free trade when they met with Ralph Goodale yesterday.

"We had a meeting with Minister Goodale," shared Estevan's Mayor Roy Ludwig. "Our Economic Development Officer, Fitz Bramble and myself and the Director of the Central North American Free Trade Corridor. And that fosters free trade between the countries, the free movement of goods including new technologies, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles and that type of thing."

"We're putting a piece together to put on the website encouraging free trade and the positive impacts of free trade."

"Basically, we have roughly two and a half billion dollars every day that crosses the border between Canada and the US and we feel it's a very positive thing to keep the free trade going."

"This piece that our people have put together, we want a Canadian content because we're working on both sides of the border so our American friends have put some of the language together and we wanted to run the stuff that we have past Minister Goodale, so his people could have a look at it. Put in the right numbers and then when we put it out, we have all the right information going forward."

The document would encourage free trade between the two countries.

"We're hoping that NAFTA will be completed but I know it's going to be a daunting task. I know the United States' President, Mr. Trump, he doesn't seem to be all that interested in getting an agreement completed. I know our Canadian counterparts are working very hard trying to get a deal. Hopefully they can and I guess if they can't, we'll see where that goes but NAFTA has been very good for Canada and the US and Mexico. I'm very hopeful that a deal can be reached."
