City Council will go ahead with renaming a road in Estevan Brown Road in honour of Russ Brown.

"He was a businessman in Estevan," shared his daughter, Debbie Packet. "He owned the old Empire Hotel and after he sold that, he and my mom purchased A&A Jewellery. They were operating that when he was elected to City Council in Estevan. And he was also the MLA for Souris - Moose Mountain."

He was working as the Minister in charge of SaskPower in 1959 when Boundary Dam Power Station was commissioned. He was also a captain in WWII.

He married Edith May Cumming on July 18, 1933, and had four children together. Following her passing, he married his second wife, Lorie and had two children.

"He was a great father. Because he was so community-minded, he always had his kids involved in activities. Sunday was family day, my dad baked French bread every Sunday and did the cooking."

"We're very happy he's getting this honour. It means a lot to our family that he is being recognized for his service to the community."

She added that they are excited about the unveiling which should happen later this year.

"I talked to some of my family members and they hope to come down to attend it."

Russ Brown passed away on October 19, 1971, at the age of 59.
