With the month and a half mark over for 2019 and the recent cold snap our city has had, fitness fanatics and people looking to get in shape alike have been filling gyms and fitness classes in town. According to Diane Wenham, Events Manager at the Estevan Leisure Centre, they've seen record numbers in some of their fitness programs.

"The classes have actually been holding their own, and we were a little bit concerned that with the cold weather. Some of our six to ten classes in the morning are maybe a little bit down, but our easy stretch class and our aqua awe class in the pool around nine-ten in the morning are seeing between 23 and 30 people, so that's awesome."

The increase in people coming to the Leisure Centre's fitness classes is up around 10% since late November to early December according to Wenham.

"In a couple of our classes, our attendance is high enough that we have added an additional instructor into the class just so that everybody has really good representation when they're taking the class."

Despite the increase in both attendance and staff to manage said attendance, the programs at the Leisure Centre still have room to grow and are always looking to add more people.

"If we continue getting the big classes like we are and it continues to build, we'll just start adding extra classes. Something that's happened with one of our new programs called 'sculpt', it's in our weight room, and we started off with two classes per week and we've already jumped it to six."

If you're interested in joining any of the city's fitness classes, have a question about them, or even have a suggestion for a possible program to add, you can contact or visit the office at the Estevan Leisure Centre during regular business hours.
