The most valuable gift for any family in Estevan on Christmas Day would have been a working furnace.

As predicted before the weekend, a deep freeze settled over the holiday weekend in the Energy City leading to the coldest December 25th in 21 years.

The maximum high temperature reached was (-24 C) on Christmas, the lowest 'high' mark since 1996 when the mark topped out at (-27.8 C).

The same temperature carried over into Boxing Day with a high of only (-24 C) on December 26th. Both nights saw the maximum low mark below (-30 C) with the wind chill dropping the 'Feels Like' mark to below (-40 C)

It's quite a cool down from the last four Christmas' in Estevan, where the average high reached (-7.2 C) since 2013.

Historically, the record high on Christmas Day in Estevan is (+7.3 C) set in 2005. Meanwhile, the record low on Christmas Day in Estevan is (-37.3 C) set during that previously mentioned frigid night in 1996.

Looking ahead at the final five days of 2017, it appears that things will remain quite cold in Estevan. Expected high's will hover around the (-25 C), with a forecasted high of (-18 C) on January 1st.
