Conservation officers were made aware of the remains of a moose on April 13, 2018.

"Officers from Estevan and Weyburn," explained Game Warden, Lindsey Leko, "are investigating a cow moose that was unlawfully shot on private land west of Benson."

"When we attended, we found the remains of a moose, the head, the legs in the brush. It was apparent that the cow was pregnant and did have a calf with it. We found the calf discarded with the rest of the animal's insides when they field dressed it."

"Our moose population is not what it used to be and this certainly doesn't help."

Leko believes that the moose was shot somewhere between April 10th and April 13th."

"We were able to collect some evidence at the scene but we sure could use some help from the public if anyone knows anything, please call the Turn In Poachers Line."

If caught, the poachers would be looking at an unlawfully hunting charge. Fines run around $3,000."
