Since Detector Dog Chase and his handler, Sherise, arrived at the North Portal border crossing, they've been utilized on quite a few cases.

"On August 20th, officers at North Portal located a .22 calibre semi automatic pistol, it was hidden in a camper," shared Jackie Callin with the CBSA, adding that the team had assisted in finding the weapon.

"The male traveler was from Illinois. He was arrested, and paid a $1,000 penalty for failing to declare that firearm. He was allowed to return to the U.S. for committing an offence upon entry to Canada."

The canine was also called in to sniff over an SUV in June, where a switchblade was then discovered.

"I can tell you that, throughout the summer, he and his handler have also assisted with a number of examinations throughout southern Saskatchewan. Some contraband items that have been seized include pepper spray and brass knuckles. We did have another firearm seizure on July 5th that Chase was part of, and he's also been involved where we've seized personal quantities of controlled substances and marijuana," said Callin.
