Every month the Saskatchewan Safety Spotlight focuses on a different safety issue that we see on Saskatchewan roads. Each spotlight is decided between SGI, Law enforcement, and the Government. The month of June focused on Distracted Driving, specifically with cellular devices.

Distracted driving with cell phone use is one of the leading causes of collisions in Saskatchewan. In 2017, 27% of accidents were caused by distracted driving. Throughout the duration of June, Police across the province issued 919 distracted driving tickets and 798 of those were for cell phone use while driving.

Scott McGregor, a Communications Consultant with SGI stresses the importance of not using your phone while driving "We understand that everyone has a phone. When you're driving put the phone away. Out of sight out of mind. If it is not beeping or lighting up at you, you're probably not going to grab it. focus on driving."

Using your phone while driving is extremely dangerous and the consequences are severe. Motorists are encouraged to put the phone down and focus on driving.
