A recent donation made by Western Financial Group's non-profit, Western Communities Foundation, provided a strong boost to the Habitat For Humanity's build project that is set to commence in the spring.

Doug Barnstable, Chairman of the steering committee for Habitat, also expressed his happiness at the increase to their funds.

"We are really pleased that they decided to partner with us. It's a big help for our fundraising, and another step towards getting that total amount available so we can purchase a lot to build on."

Vicki Penney, Manager of the Estevan branch of the Group, says it was very satisfying to present the cheque to the charity.

"Western Communities Foundation chose us for a $5,000 grant, and our office decided in December to nominate Habitat For Humanity. Giving that to them is a warm feeling."

Barnstable notes that they are also still looking for volunteers to provide manpower during the construction phase.

"They don't necessarily have to be skilled in any particular area. There will be someone that will be able to show them how to use the equipment, and we will have a safety program as well.

He said that they are planning some fundraising events for the near future to help promote the project.
