Another Labour Day long weekend is upon us, and you may be planning hitting the road to spend time with family and friends or to cheer on your favorite team in person at the CFL Labour Day classic.

Whatever the destination, it is only reached if the means of getting there is safe and thought of responsibly.

"Any long weekend is a busy time for the highways. There's lots of people coming and going, trying to get to camping spots, and it's kind of the last opportunity to camp before most of the parks are closed. We'd just like to remind motorists to slow down, plan ahead and give yourself lots of time to get there," said Daniel Gaignard with the Estevan RCMP.

"Obviously, from the drinking and driving standpoint, it's best we don't see any at all. Generally speaking, when the long weekend comes around most police agencies tend to step up enforcement. You are really taking a risk to get caught if you are driving impaired. In addition, you are taking the risk of injuring yourself and others on the roadway."

He also pointed out that Friday could still see construction zones throughout the southeast, and in some cases, even over the long weekend.
