Weeks of buildup and ticket sales have paid off for the Saskatchewan Elks and their Children's Charity Draw. All the money they raised is going toward helping children hear throughout the province. And one of those charitable acts has paid off for a Swift Current family as well.

The Elks said that today is the day they will present the grand prize of their charity draw to Derris and Judy White in Swift Current. They had their choice of a couple of brand new pickup trucks or cash, and they chose to take the cash.

"The grand prize for the children's charity lottery that the Elks have been running for the past few months is going to be in Swift Current this morning," said Elks publicity director Harold Claffey, "at 11:00 at Redhead Equipment on Highway 1."

The Saskatchewan Elks provincial president Chris Svab will be on hand to make the presentation, as will Claffey. Claffey added that, with protective measures around COVID-19 still in place, they don't want a big crowd at the event.

"Because of social distancing, we would like to keep the attendance at the event to a minimum," he said. "However, you're welcome to listen to the news this afternoon."

Claffey mentioned they would also be making some other presentations in the area that afternoon, but the White family are the big winners. Claffey didn't know what they would do with the money, but they are very excited.

"What would you do with $50,000 cash?" he inquired. "I know I could put it several different places."

Claffey said this time the presentation will not be streamed live.
