Excessive speed is one of the most common violations that law enforcement officers come across, and it is also one of the most dangerous driving habits.

That said, members of the Estevan Police Service encountered such an incident last week, in the area between the truck bypass and city limits on Highway 47.

"They stopped a motorcyclist traveling almost at 140 kilometers per hour in that 60 kilometer per hour zone," said Police Chief Paul Ladouceur.

"Quite frankly, that could result in criminal charges, so we want to forewarn the public that if we continue to see this type of driving behavior there could potentially be those consequences for dangerous driving."

"This was an individual who was speeding a motorcycle with a passenger on the back, a completely irresponsible action. That's just not using common sense by any means. We often see people exceed the speed limit by a little bit, however, that becomes dangerous and reckless," he added.

"Its' unfortunate when we see that kind of driving behavior, because as grown ups driving a vehicle, we should have more common sense than that."

Ladouceur also expressed that you should watch your speed in construction zones, being mindful that the workers will be out doing their job.
