The Estevan Police Service is reminding drivers to always lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight. This coming after a bit of a rash of car thefts recently.

"When the weather gets a little colder," explained Sgt Craig Bird, "if they're running their vehicles just to ensure that they stay locked and don't leave the doors open or leave the keys or any valuables inside the vehicle to prevent any unauthorized people from taking the vehicles."

"We're just reminding the public to be a little extra vigilant if they see anything suspicious in the area to give us a call and let us check it out."

The EPS also responded to a few other calls last night.

"We responded to an alarm call at a local business. We ended up going to the business and checking everything out. The building, fortunately, was secure but it appeared that there may have been decorations inside the building that were causing the alarm."

The EPS will follow up with the business but it doesn't appear to be any foul play involved.

"We also responded to a possible break and enter to a residence in the city over on the north side. We couldn't really find any evidence of anyone trying to break into the residence and there weren't any suspects in the area so we're checking into things a little more to find out what was going on."

Other than that, the EPS conducted a few other checks, looked around for any suspected impaired drivers, and made sure people were driving according to the road conditions.

"Fortunately, we haven't had any accidents overnight and hopefully people will continue to drive a little bit slower because of the road conditions and keep their distance to avoid getting into accidents."
