Whether it's a big diesel work truck, a hot rod or a motorcycle cruising down Main street, vehicles that make excessive noise are out there and it's driving some residents to call the police.

"I know it's a pet peeve of a lot of our residents in the community," shared Deputy Police Chief, Murray Cowan, "and I can certainly say it is a pet peeve with the Estevan Police Service too because we do get an increase in complaints with respect to loud vehicles."

"That includes motorcycles, of course, a lot of people have straight pipes on their motorcycles and they are very loud when they are running."

"The big thing is the manner in which people drive. When they accelerate, they make a lot of noise and they rattle windows they get so bad. It gets extremely loud."

"The traffic units and the CTSS (Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan) concentrate on those types of things especially in our downtown core during the day and the residential areas in the evening. It is important that we ask people to respect others."

He also added that Estevan is an industrial area and there are those who may be trying to sleep during the day.

"A lot of people work shift work, including our own officers and healthcare workers, and power and mine workers. People are at home during the day and sleeping during that day and people need to be respectful of that when they are operating their vehicles."

"At the end of the day, it's illegal. If the noise is low enough that it disturbs other people, these people can be charged for it and most likely will if it's excessive."
