The search for a moniker for the Estevan Police Service's newest member has come to a close.

Police Chief Paul Ladouceur said that the name for the new canine will be revealed at an upcoming event.

A competition was held among local kids of the community to select a title that would befit the dog. A panel decided, with the handler (Constable Paul Cabot)'s input, what the winner was.

The animal will be able to detect drugs, track evidence and people, and protect officers.

"It will be announced at the bicycle rodeo on May 27th at Affinity Place at 11:30 AM. We will have the lucky winner there, the name will be unveiled, and it should be a good day," noted Ladouceur.

He added that he invites everyone to come down to the bike rodeo for fun, food and prizes.

"We encourage everybody to come out and meet their police service."
