The Estevan Police Service made two separate arrests in relation to local thefts this week.

After an investigation into the stealing of a significant number of new tires from a local business, 43 year old Calvin Stachniak of Young, Saskatchewan was taken into custody. He was charged with Theft over $5,000, Break and Enter with the intent to commit the Indictable Offence of Theft, and Possession of Property Obtained By Crime.

"It was an incident that was reported a little while ago. Our patrol unit started the investigation and it was turned over to the criminal investigation division to assist and run with it. The male was arrested on the evening of September 4th, and was taken to Court on Wednesday," related Sergeant Tyler McMillan.

He was released on conditions following the court appearance, and his vehicle was seized as offence related property.

The EPS also received the report of theft from a local business that night. They then arrested a 22 year old male, who was charged with Theft under $5,000.

"It was reported to police, and through investigation and good video surveillance from the business, the suspect was identified. He was later located at a known residence where he stays, and was brought into custody. He was taken to court yesterday, and he's facing numerous charges," said McMillan.

Apparently, the theft is just the latest one against him. He also has charges for mischief for property damage, and has previously been charged and released on other matters.

He was remanded into custody, and appears in Court again on Thursday.
