Thursday's storm caused a lot of hassle int he southeast corner of the province. Here in Estevan, while the damage wasn't too bad, it did cause some confusion when the traffic lights were knocked out.

"We were pretty fortunate in the city," shared Police Chief Paul Ladouceur. "Directly in the city, we didn't get hit too bad. We did have some things to contend with, an accident at one of the intersections where the lights were out."

Ladouceur explains what to do should you come across an intersection where the lights are not operating properly.

"When the lights go out, it's a four-way stop. Be extra cautious when approaching."

"We had several vehicles that went through not realizing that they were required to stop."

"You have to stop at those intersections. It is an offence to go through without stopping when the lights are out. So someone could be charged."

"As you saw yesterday, it resulted in one collision so we want to remind the public to be cautious."

"The City does a great job getting the stop signs out as a courtesy as quickly as possible. But those stop signs aren't a requirement for people to stop if the stop signs aren't there. Every driver is responsible to stop at the intersection whether or not a temporary stop sign is put out or not."

"It should be obvious. You're playing chicken if you just go through an intersection that's uncontrolled. People have to use common sense."
