The Report Impaired Drivers program is an important program that the Estevan Police Service use often to help them track down impaired drivers. At the recent Police Board Meeting, the Estevan Police service recognized the efforts of three young women who assisted in the arrest of an impaired driver.

"There were three young gals," explained Police Chief Paul Ladouceur, "a little while ago, in mid-February, that happened to be out and observed a male leaving a location who was obviously intoxicated from their point of view."

"He was staggering and went to his vehicle."

The women called 911 and were able to provide a description of the vehicle and driver to the dispatcher.

"They continued to safely follow that individual while the police responded. We ended up arresting him and retrieving very, very high breath samples, significantly higher than the legal limit."

He was charged with impaired operation and driving with a blood alcohol of over .08.

"We wanted to recognize these young women because we want to encourage the public. This is a public issue, this is not a police issue. Everyone uses our roadways. So we want to encourage people to continue to use the RID program."

"One of the local restaurants stepped up and provided gift cards of $50 each. We provided them with some tokens of appreciation from our police service as well. And we had a really good conversation about the possibility of them being involved from a student perspective on impaired driving awareness."

"We're very, very proud of these three young gals. Kudos to them, they deserve every bit of recognition."
