Impaired driving was the primary focus for the Estevan Police Service over the weekend, and they found a few motorists that haven't yet gotten the message.

"We were fairly busy...just because there was so many events in town. We had some high visibility check stops set up through the city, both on Friday night and Saturday night, just because of the extra events going on. Unfortunately, we did pick up a couple of impaired drivers over the course of the weekend, and issued several driving suspensions for people that blew a warn on our roadside screening device," shared Sergeant Craig Bird.

One vehicle checked also resulted in a passenger charged with possession of cannabis in a vehicle. Members also responded to a report of a disturbance at a north side residence, where a house party was taking place and guests getting unruly. Things were disbanded, and police are looking into the actions of several partygoers.

On Saturday night, police returned to the check stops, and over 750 vehicles were checked, resulting in charges of operating and unregistered vehicle and operating a vehicle without an appropriate license. Officers also dealt with a noise complaint and issued several tickets for consumption of alcohol in public.

Saturday's dayshift saw an 18 year old Macoun male arrested for trespassing in a residence on Sereggela Place. Upon arrest he was found in possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. They also received a complaint of mischief to a vehicle on the 1600 block of 1st Street. That matter is also still under investigation.

"Sunday night was not too bad. We did get a call about a possible impaired driver. We went on the search for them and actually did locate the people that were involved. Fortunately, they had gotten into a cab and had gotten a safe ride home, so there wasn't a concern there with them."

However, officers also had to attend to a disturbance in a local apartment building.

"We did locate a male that was causing some issues, and he ended up as a guest of the Estevan Police Service and will be looking at some charges for breaching his court-ordered conditions," related Bird.

During Friday's dayshift, members responded to a complaint of mischief at a local school involving a beverage being dumped on a vehicle, and that matter remains under investigation. They also received a complaint of a hit and run in the Spruce Drive area during the day prior, still under investigation as well. The EPS was asked to assist a male as he collected personal belongings from his previous residence, and they kept the peace to no issues. Officers also issued 3 summary offence tickets for using, viewing, or holding electronic communications devices while operating a motor vehicle.
