The Estevan Police Service has been dealing with a number of motorists driving recklessly and stunting around Estevan.

"Basically in the summertime," explained Sgt Bird, "kids get out of school and they're looking for something to do and unfortunately, they're diverting their energy to driving around and driving inappropriately."

"Whether it be racing each down city streets or doing doughnuts in parking lots or on grid roads around the city."

Bird adds that it's just too dangerous to be driving that way in the city.

"People don't realize that cars are fairly large pieces of equipment and a lot of these kids don't know how to drive them properly because they've just gotten their driver's licence recently. They start doing manoeuvres and stunts with their vehicles and lose control and the next thing you know the car has rolled over."

"They're spraying up rocks and damaging other property."

If caught driving recklessly, you could be facing serious penalties.

"Generally (fines) start at $150 and they could end up with criminal charges depending on the seriousness of the situation. Plus they could lose the privilege of driving through SGI and have their vehicle towed."

"People need to be paying attention and obey all the posted speed limits and signs. And because there is a lot of construction going on in the city as well, just to watch for the detours and obey all those signs in regards to that. It's for everyone's safety."
