One of the Energy City's largest events this year, the second annual Savour the Southeast, hit a higher mark this time around.

According to Police Chief Paul Ladouceur, not only did residents enjoy themselves and have a great time, they also made wise decisions when it came to going home after the party.

"What was really impressive was the number of vehicles that were left on the parking lot overnight. That says one thing, that people are heeding the warnings about impaired driving and are playing it safe. It's very impressive when you see that many take a safe way home."

"It seems that we are starting to make headway and people are getting the message, so kudos to the community because everyone had a great time and stayed safe," he added.

Ladouceur noted that the difference was noticeable compared to last year.

"There definitely wasn't as many vehicles on the lot last year. Now, I don't want to jump to conclusions and say that it means that people were driving impaired by any means, but certainly when you see that many vehicles, people are obviously realizing that they've had a little too much and do the responsible thing."

"There's no excuse in a city of our size to drive home if you have had too much to drink. It's small enough that you can pretty much walk from one end to the other, so at the end of the day I think that people either took a cab, got a friend to drive, had a designated driver or walked, and that's great," he concluded.

In addition, Ladouceur said that there were no other incidents related to the event that night.
