Connie Hagel speaks at the introduction of Estevan's MADD Chapter. It's one more step in the fight against impaired driving. Estevan's own local chapter of MADD was presented this morning.

Connie Hagel, Community Leader for MADD in Estevan got involved after seeing a social media post that the Estevan Police put out looking for someone to lead Estevan's chapter of MADD. Hagel saw that and knew she had to get involved.

"I saw it on social media and thought, that would be neat," she shared. "I'm a mom and a grandma so I thought that would be something that I would like to do."

She added that Estevan is a perfect community for this type of organization.

"This community has been impacted by a fatality with an impaired driver so I think it's something that the community needs to be reminded of on a constant basis."

And she is wasting no time is getting the word out.

"We have our Red Ribbon launch in November. Ee put red ribbons out to different establishments. People donate a little bit and take a red ribbon. It's a promise that they're going to drive sober."

She also plans to attend  Bruins' games and the races during the summer to remind people to not drive impaired.

Hagel is looking for more volunteers and has plans for a future board of directors.

"I'm looking for volunteers. It's not a big time commitment, it'll be whatever people want to put into it.

To volunteer, you can check out their Facebook page or email Hagel at estevan@MADD.ca.
