Parents in Estevan took a time out to consider, examine and improve their child's security in their vehicle on Wednesday, during the Estevan Family Resource Center's Car Seat Safety clinic.

Madeline Valentine and Isabelle Martin, with the Southeast Cornerstone School Division and Sun Country Health Region respectively, were available to inspect the seat's installment and offer tips and suggestions for improvement.

"Every seat is different. That's why it's difficult and so important to come to a clinic, because what might work for one family's seat might not work for your's," explained Valentine, who then proceeded to share a couple of recommendations.

"Check with SGI to make sure that you are following everything that's in the manufacturer's book for both the vehicle and car seat, and make sure that you send in those registration cards from those seats. That's how you'll hear if there's something wrong, or if there's a recall of some sort."

"Lot's of people are afraid to get things checked. They think that if there's something wrong that they're going to get ticketed. We meed to remove that statement and accept that we need to get these inspected and keep the children safe. If these are installed wrong, the chance of severe injury to your child is pretty high," said Colleen MacMillan, the Family Center Coordinator.

"With summer coming along, everybody is going on holidays, making trips and being on the road a lot more. This takes ten minutes out of your day to get it checked."

She noted that the line grew during the day, and parents and grandparents all showed up to ensure the the safety of their young passengers.
