A local firefighter graduates from his National Fire protection service training this afternoon. Jordan Baun will be graduating from Lakeland College in Vermillion, Alberta with his professional certification in firefighting.

"He's been away for the last two months going through the program," explained Fire Chief, Dale Feser. "It's been a tough few months for him but he's really enjoyed himself and made a lot of great friends that will last a lifetime."

"We look forward to having him back, fully trained and ready to go."

Baun will now have his journeyman status as a firefighter.

"Much like any other trade when you get a red seal certification, in the fire service, it is a gold seal. He's going to be officially certified in National Fire Protection Service 1001 which is the standard for professional firefighting, both Level 1 and Level 2. As well as, he's going to be trained up and certified in hazardous material response and both the awareness and operations level."

"It definitely gives him a really good certification training and skill set as well as the practical skills that are involved with that particular skill set."

The ceremony will be streamed live on the school website and the Estevan Fire Hall has planned a viewing party at 1 pm for any firefighters who are interested in watching.
