This weekend, as you are sitting down to a Thanksgiving meal, don't forget to share what you are thankful for and spare a thought for those less fortunate.

"We're busy," explained Major Heather Harbin of the Estevan Salvation Army which runs the Estevan Food Bank. "It's steady so we're grateful that we have the stuff to be able to help people."

"We're a little low on our shelves, but we're waiting on the Canada Post food drive which is going to be October 21st and usually that brings in quite a lot of food and will help to fill our shelves again."

There is also a food drive going on organized by FCC from September 6 to October 13.

She adds that she is grateful for all the different food drives going on in and around the city. She shares that their shelves may not be empty, but they are depleted and she believes that the food drives will fill the shelves up until Christmas.

She mentioned that food staples such as pasta and rice are always in high demand.

"Like peanut butter, beans and soups and all of those things. And maybe now, snacks for kids in school because we do have a lot of families that come."

"And even ketchup and mustard, condiments. All of those things we try and give out."

During this Thanksgiving Weekend, Major Harbin shared that the Salvation Army is thankful for many things.

"We are really thankful for the generosity of the people of Estevan and area. Without their generosity, we couldn't do our jobs. So it would be a great time to say thank you to them for helping us out."

She ends by saying that this weekend is a perfect opportunity for the residents of Estevan and area to show their gratefulness by donating to the Food Bank.

"What a great way to say thank you is to donate to the Food Bank to help others."
