Moving into the new year, the Estevan Legion is looking back at 2017 as a year of great community support. After dropping below $40,000 in debt, community support and hard work from members and volunteers has made 2017 a successful year overall for the Legion.

“We've had some substantial donations to help us out of our financial situation in 2017,” says Estevan Legion President Lyle Dukart. “For now we've got a lot of internal organization to do in the next few months to bring everything back up to speed.”

The year saw all sorts of donations coming from the community to support the Legion, including a donation from a cause the Legion usually donates to support, namely the United Way Telethon. With Estevan being the tight knit community that we call home, Dukart is convinced the community will continue to back them for years to come.

“I'm pretty sure with the community backing we've had in the last year, I can't see the community backing away from us, and our membership was just superior on whatever we were doing, our volunteers stepped up and helped us do everything.”

There's still work to be done before the Legion can return to normal to help out the community, but Dukart is optimistic it won't take too long.

“Hopefully by the middle of 2018 we'll be looking fairly good at upgrading all our problems that have come up through the years.”

The quickest way for the Legion to return to normal is to continue the amazing support the community has showed.

“Get involved on supporting the Legion by becoming a member, helping out our veterans and our veterans widows and helping everyone else out."

“Our membership has come out of the wood work and helped us out tremendously and I can't see it really quitting. Everybody's got quite a bit of interest this year," he added.
