The Estevan Legion donated to many different efforts and causes on Friday, sending out cash amounts to help out many places.

Among the donations are:

  • $2,500 to the Estevan Regional Nursing Home
  • $2,500 to the Creighton Lodge,
  • $2,500 to long-term care at St. Joseph's Hospital
  • $2,500 for additions to the service center at St. Joseph's Hospital
  • $2,000 to SMILE services
  • and $5,000 to Estevan Minor Baseball

The donations are handled regularly by Estevan Legion members, who work donate throughout the year to Estevan area causes.

Frosty Forrest, a member of the Estevan Legion, detailed some of what they do.

"Before we start and do any of our donations we talk with the places and see what their needs are," said Forrest, "This year is a little tougher, we didn't have as much money to give back to the community because of COVID, so we just kind of use our discretion and try to find out where there's a need."

Forrest also said that the Legion has even donated to individuals when the need arises.

"We have in the past assisted some veterans that were in need, that had some needs and so on, we're always willing to do that," said Forrest," We keep an eye on what's happening in the community and if there's someone who needs help and we can help then we'll do that."

Forrest says that they're looking to keep fundraising as the province opens up, so they have plenty of money to give away for next year.

"Everyone that receives the money, they're grateful for it," said Forrest," All these places need funds to operate and they're always grateful. Our donations were down somewhat this year but we still felt it necessary to get some money out there."

"We're continuing our fundraising with our truck raffle and other things that we do so that next year we can contribute as well."

"We've pretty much done our public donations here for this year. We also do some donations out of our poppy fund, which has already been done."
