In October of 2019, the Estevan Mall was purchased by First Aberdeen Properties out of Regina. They have bought the mall with a vision to vastly improve it over the next five years and turn it into a hot sport in the community.

Martin Blair is the managing director for First Aberdeen, he said there are lots of positive changes coming to the shopping centre. One of the first of these changes coming to the facility is electric car charging stations which are currently being put in place.

"We're realizing now electric cars are the way of the future and are going to be a big part of it. There was already power station at the corner of Peevy Mart, who have power stations at each of their locations across western Canada. Estevan wasn't an exception it's just that the station was off to the side of the building."

He said relocating these charging spots and giving them proper parking placements is a must. He added this is because the cars take a long time to charge and need to be at the user's convenience.

There are other changes coming to the mall as well that has Blair excited. "The big stuff this year is a lot of stuff that can't be seen. We've decided to install a whole new drainage system underneath the south side of the mall. Our direction moving forward with the Estevan Market Mall is to make it approachable from 360 degrees. Now, with the cooperation with the city of Estevan, we're going to be installing two new accesses from the south side of the mall and start to create the ability to be able to circulate fully."

Slowly over the next five years, both externally and internally the mall will undergo renovations. One of the big changes people will see is a food court installed in the location of the current Eclipse Fashion store which will be moved to another spot in the complex.

Blair said it is important to shop local and added that their goal is to make it much easier to do just that.
