As discussions are tossed back and forth between Canada and the USA around a new NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) deal, some may wonder about the negotiation's true status.

"We're hearing rumblings that their may possibly be a deal by the weekend, so that would be positive," noted Estevan MLA Lori Carr, "Obviously, it's very unpredictable because of the nature of the negotiations up to this point."

"I think they're standing firm on dispute resolution, and I think that's a very important factor that needs to be a part of that deal. I think that's good for Canada to be doing that."

She added that, until a deal is inked onto paper, it's hard to tell what kind of impact any of it would have on southeast Saskatchewan. However, if tariffs end up getting dropped as a result, the province would benefit.
