The Estevan Police Service are reaching out to kids aged 8-15 in Estevan and area and inviting them to an evening of activity and games at the Church of God from 6pm - 7:30 pm.

"This is something that we will be doing about every two weeks," explained Police Chief, Paul Ladouceur, "and it will involve kickball, basketball, dodge-ball, floor hockey and a number of other sports."

"It's a good opportunity for youth to come out and meet their local police officers."

He added that there will be some prizes and giveaways at each night.

"We'll have some exciting things that will happen at each event so we're encouraging parents to get their youth out there. Relationships are best built at a young age and certainly this builds trust with police in the community. I think it's a win win at the end of the day."

Chief Ladouceur also added that all came about through a grant from the provincial government.

"We're doing this in conjunction with the Estevan Police Association and it's supported by the Community Initiatives Fund, through a grant we obtained through the provincial government to allow us to do this so we're grateful for that."

"We started looking at different ideas on how we connect with our youth. One of our newest officers, Michelle Pickering, who was our former bylaw officer, took the imitative to write a grant so good for her, and thought this would be a great fit for our community to connect with our local youth and engage with our local youth."

He mentioned that they are always looking for more ways to get involved in the community.

"We've done our open house and we've done our half marathon in the past and this was just another way to connect. We thought it was a great way to get both the officers and the kids involved and active together. They'll be having some fun playing some sports but they'll learn some safety tips and some other things along the way."

"Ultimately it's a good chance for kids to get out and connect with their police, have some fun. You don't have to be an athlete to partake, by any means. All skill levels are welcome."
