The Estevan Police Service have been busy trying to put a dent in the problem of impaired driving.

"It was four different locations in the city that they did the check-stops over the weekend," shared Deputy Police Chief, Murray Cowan. "In total, with all those locations combined, they stopped upwards of 800 vehicles. There were just two where they did road side screening tests. The one person passed and one person had their licence suspended for three days as they blew a warning on the road side instrument."

"Impressive numbers, I have to say,"

In addition to those, the police also found a few other issues.

"There was a male arrested for outstanding warrants under the Traffic Safety Act and one male was charged while suspended as he had a suspended drivers licence."

"Overall it was nice to see everyone driving safely and most people did have a sober driver for their ride home."

Cowan adds that this is the time of year for celebrations.

"That is something that we are focusing on this month with all the Christmas parties ans soon to be New Year's parties coming up. We are certainly going to be out there and focusing on impaired driving as we always are. This time of year, we are going to increase our high visibility check-stops so you'll probably see our guys out a little more here between and and the end of the year."

He also noted the support of the public for this program.

"We get lots of feedback, some through our Twitter account and others just through interaction with our members on the street with people. There's a lot of support for it ans we certainly will continue it. We work in partnership with SGI on this and they do provide funding for some fo this and we are going to continue to do it well into the New Year."
