Carla Dayman, the new communications and dispatch officer started working for the Estevan Police Service.

"Our communications officers are what we call the "life line" of the organization, they're the first line of communication to our officers on the street. They are the life line to those officers when they need help and they're also the life line to the public and the community when they call in," explained Deputy Police Chief Murray Cowan.

"They have a unique roll within our organization, in particular they take calls and 911 calls and emergency calls. They dispatch our officers to the scene of any type of incident ranging from a very serious crime to a motor vehicle accident or anything."

"They also take non-emergency calls as well, which is just regular every day type calls," he stated.

"They're the first people you see when you walk into the building and come up to the front counter, those are the people that you'll see and that will reach you and help you."

"In addition to that they do a lot of administrative duties as well. They're responsible for data input, in other words our record management system and all of our filing and court systems, they do all that type of work."

"It's a very demanding and multi-focused job. When charges are laid, they do the original charges up and create the court jackets and what not and start to get things ready for the members to finish the files off once they started," expressed Cowan.

"There job is very diverse and it's a very busy position to be in and they work along side the members. There's one attached to each platoon and they work the 12 hour shift and they work night shifts as well as day shifts along side our members."

"They are very much a part of the team here and we couldn't do it without them. Carla is going to be a great asset and a great addition to the team."
