There has been much talk and debate over the last months once it was announced that recreational cannabis would be legalized. Here in Estevan, we were allowed one retail store.

"We're feeling good," shared John Thomas, President of Jimmy's Cannabis Shop. "It's really busy, it's really exciting."

And although they won't be ready to open their doors this morning, they are still planning to do so, hopefully by the end of the month.

"We're still targeting October. We should have our online store up and running but the retail location, probably by the end of October I would hope."

"We're really looking forward to getting it open and being somewhere that the people of Estevan can come into if they are interested."

As for those with no previous knowledge of cannabis, he added that they will have the staff to help.

"We are going to create a very inviting, welcoming space. And we're going to have trained staff on hand to welcome people and help them through a first time experience with cannabis."

And for those who don't approve, Thomas shared that he knows it's not for everyone.

"There's always going to be a segment of the population who has that view and that's fine. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Alcohol is a drug also, and that's been legal for years. IT's not necessarily for everybody but that's okay."
