Cannington's MLA, Dan D'Autremont recently announced that he is not seeking re-election in 2020 ending a nearly 30-year career in politics.

"Dan D'Autremont was one of the founding members of the Sask Party," explained Estevan's MLA, Lori Carr and Minister of Highways and Infrastructure, "the original 8 people that had the courage to step out and start that party which then allowed us to be where we are today."

"It'll be a great loss for our party but I wish him all the best in the future."

She added that D'Autremont was there for her when she first started out.

"When I first got elected, Dan was one of the MLAs who were there to mentor me to a certain extent and show me how things work. He had great US-Canadian relationships with people across the border and he has really tried to instill that into myself with us being a border town as well as other MLAs to show the importance of how working together is great."

And while the Sask Party and southeast will feel the loss of D'Autremont's retirement, Carr is confident that another will rise up to take his place.

"There are lots of good people that are going to be able to step up and take that spot. Under the leadership of Scott Moe, I think we are going to do well and be well served there."
