The Salvation Army is eagerly awaiting Saturday's Bruins' game at Affinity place. It is the annual Teddy Bear Toss game, a chance for people to throw things on the ice without risk of being ejected.

"On Saturday the 18th, it will be the annual Teddy Bear Toss with the Estevan Bruins," explained Ronza Reynard, Family Services Coordinator. "So what happens is people will come to the game, we're asking them to bring a new stuffed teddy bear. If they don't have one, we'll be selling some at the game for a donation, no set cost."

"When the Bruins score their first goal of the game, everybody throws their teddy bears on to the ice."

After members of the Bruins collect all the stuffed animals off the ice, they are given to the Salvation Army to be distributed to people in the area.

"We then in turn, use these teddy bears to take to the seniors' homes in Estevan and the surrounding area. We use them as people come in just looking for a teddy bear, and we also use them up at our kids summer camp."

"I think it's important, especially with the nursing home, when we take them there, these folks, they really light up when they see the teddy bears. They can pick and choose between a few we take into their room and get them to pick one or two of the bears or animals. They really enjoy them and we go year to year with this and sometimes we still see the one they picked the previous year in their room, so that's nice."

"With the kids up at the camp, we do a moms and kids camp and we give all the kids one so they have a teddy bear to go to sleep with at night in case they might be a little homesick even though they are with their moms. Or they're lonely but when they get to the camp and we say, "Here you go, here's a bear to have." They do a teddy bear picnic with it."

"I think it's important, it really brings the community together and it's actually quite cool to see and participate when you get to throw the bear on to the ice. Hopefully the Bruins will score early and score often."

Carnduff will also host their own Teddy Bear toss that night in Carnduff when the Red Devils play the Arcola/Kisbey Combines. Teddy bears will go to support the Santa Cause, a local organization that donates to residents who are in need during the holiday season.
