With a Federal Election in full swing in Canada, a program is taking place in schools across the county to get students involved.

The Student Vote Program is a parallel election for students under the voting age that happens at the same time as official elections.

“The program is run across the county for various municipal, provincial, and federal elections, and the hope is that by practicing these skill when they are younger, the students will be ready to participate fully when they turn eighteen in our democratic process.” Explains Emily Barrett with Student Vote.

All of the elementary schools in Estevan are taking place in this program. The different schools have different age groups participating.

Throughout Estevan, the youngest grade to participate in this program is grade four, with the highest grade being grade eight.
