United Way Estevan is gazing back on a fantastic year full of support, and stunning examples of the community's generousity in all shapes and forms.

"Ending the 2017 year, courtesy of a couple of additional donations, we did go a little bit over our telethon total. We don't have exact numbers yet, but we are sitting around the $355,000 mark," shared President Patrick Fisher.

"Our Day of Caring broke record numbers for projects and volunteers. We were able to send some of our directors to Toronto for the national conference, and we learned a lot about how other United Ways operate and got reminded on how special Estevan is. Obviously the Telethon, which is our biggest event of the year, was another huge success. It was amazing to be a part of it."

At the conclusion of the 33 hour telethon, the crew had reached $350,215, surpassing their goal of $325,000. However, people just wouldn't stop giving, to the benefit of the 15 organizations receiving from United Way.

"All the money over the $325,000 that we raised this year does get reallocated directly towards the member agencies. Sometime within the next month or so, once we finalize totals from 2017, our allocations committee will go back, take a look at the member agencies and assign out money that way. All the excess money goes straight back into the community, the member agencies, and that's what is most important," Fisher expressed.

That said, they are still keeping busy finding ways to garner more support, and thus more funding for the groups that can use it the best.

"We'll be starting to plan for the Day of Caring, which will be happening sometime in mid spring again. We definately don't sit around and waste time, we're always looking for ways to help out the community and make sure that all our events can be as impactful as possible."
