It's going to be a hot week in southeast Saskatchewan. Environment Canada has issued an alert for the Estevan, Weyburn, Radville, and Milestone area due to a prolonged period of extreme heat this week.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada Justin Shaer explained an upper-level ridge developing over the prairies this week will spread very warm temperatures into southern Saskatchewan. He said toward the end of the week temperatures will hit the mid-thirties and higher, and not cooling off much at night.

"It will cool off a little bit. It's not very humid weather that we're expecting, but it's not going to cool off a lot," explained Shaer. "So, we're talking about mid to high teens overnight which doesn't give you much of a break from the daytime heat."

Shaer reminds people to play it safe in the heat, especially the very young and elderly and those with heart conditions. Staying hydrated and out of the sun are important safety tips for everyone, according to Shaer. Read more tips on staying safe in the heat HERE.
