The Estevan Fire Department responded to three emergencies within the span of an hour and a half on Thursday.

"Our first call for services came in at 12:30 and it was for a wildland/grassland fire southeast of Estevan. Crews did respond to the location and were able to easily contain and suppress the fire without too much of an issue," shared Fire Chief Dale Feser.

"Crews were just finishing up on that call when we were called out to another field fire to the northeast of the city. Once crews arrived on scene there, it was reported as a controlled burn that had gotten out of control. Some landowners were trying to get rid of some vegetation, and they did the right thing. It looked like it was going to be overwhelming for themselves, so they called us right away and were able to zip out there and contain the fire to bring it back to a manageable level for them. That way they could continue on with what they were doing."

"(We were) just wrapping up on that call, and then we got called to a third one for a reported structure fire with multiple hits on fire alarm systems. Another crew that was already in the city responded to that, and once we arrived on scene, it was found that there was a contractor that was in and did servicing on the fire alarm system, and forgot to phone the monitoring agency to let them know what was going on," Feser said.

"Thank goodness there was not a real emergency on the third call, but we'd like to remind any contractors working on any systems like that to ensure that they inform the property managers and the monitoring agencies when the start and end time is going to be, so that way there's not any unnecessary dispatching of the fire department.

He added that the crew that responded to the grass fires never even made it back to the station inbetween calls.
