There is still time to make your voice heard on the issues that affect residents in Estevan. The first results from the first survey from the City of Estevan are out.

"That is just preliminary results from the first survey that we did," explained Richard Neufeld, Land Development Manager. "There are seven that are out now and there will be eight in total by the time we're done."

"It was entitled Community Identity and Vision. One of the things I was trying to get from that survey is an idea of how attached people are to the community. What makes the community a nice place for them to live? What do they like or not like about living in Estevan? How attached are they to their neighbourhood?"

He added that it was a more general survey than the other surveys they have released.

"The other surveys are a lot more focused on specific land-use issues."

Being new to the community, Neufeld didn't have too many expectations on what the results would be.

"I guess overall, the impression I have is that this is a very practical-minded community, very pragmatic as well. Which, depending on a person's point of view, would be pretty good. I like that the community pretty focused on what they want their city government to look like. It came out fairly clear from this survey that our focus needs to be on keeping our current infrastructure in a high state of readiness and good repair before we start going off in other directions."

He added that he was pleasantly surprised by the number of responses to the surveys.

"With all of the surveys that are out there, we just topped 700 responses. That is many times more than I was expecting."

He was also glad to see was that almost three-quarters of the people who were responded were happy that they had this opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns about the direction of Estevan.

"We'll be updating the results probably in October when it comes to a close."

Residents are still able to fill out this and other surveys throughout the summer. They can be found on the City of Estevan webpage

Those who fill out the survey are entered into a draw for a gift card from local businesses. Katie Rendall was the first winner. She won a $50 gift card to The Flats.
