You may not be heading there right away, but when the sun comes back around, the spray parks are officially open in Estevan.

"They have opened and this is the same every year, June the First," explained Parks and Facilities Manager, Rod March. "The reason for that is as soon as May comes around, ball, soccer, softball, everything starts up. So our focus is to get those sports fields up and going for the kids in early May. We have to fix any irrigation leaks and that sort of thing."

"Then our third week in May is usually dedicated to making sure the splash parks are functional, ready for June 1st."

March added the irrigation systems are tied together, and that's why they can't simply turn them on if there is one nice weekend in May.

"It's nice that we had a nice weekend but that's pretty rare. It's not seasonal temperatures. I know there were a few people upset that they weren't going but the fact is we have to get everything else running first and those spray parks are always scheduled on June 1st."

So don't worry, you haven't missed your chance to run through the water.

"It's a long summer, We've got a good three months of good weather. We're looking forward to it, everything's up and running now."

"We just ask that people respect the spray parks, respect the rules. They're there for a reason - to protect those assets. It is a taxpayer asset that we are trying to protect."

Spray parks are located at Royal Heights Memorial Park and Padwick Park.
