Grab your tackle and grab your bait. The fishing season in southern Saskatchewan opens tomorrow.

"The best thing a person can do," explained Tyler Vanstone, Fisheries Technician with the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, "is get a hold of the Saskatchewan Angler's Guide. If there's anything new season to season, they've got it listed in there. This year there's an automatic renewal option that will be available to resident annual license holders for their angling licence."

"Depending on what part of the province you're in, the seasons change. Here, we're in the southern zone. The southern zone actually goes all the way to Prince Albert, Meadow Lake, Nipawin. Anything north of there, that is subject to different fishing seasons so that's important to note if they're planning on travelling to Candle Lake or La Ronge or anything north of Prince Albert."

"This year we really want to focus on aquatic invasive species prevention. It is currently unlawful to transport any watercraft in Saskatchewan with the drain plug in place or storing any water in the boat. That is to try and prevent the spread of aquatic species such as zebra mussels or quagga mussels."
