While southern Saskatchewan was hit by a series of storms which passed over the region, Plentywood, Montana appeared to have taken a direct hit.

While funnel clouds were spotted in the area, and a tornado warning was issued, it has yet to be confirmed if a tornado actually touched down in the community. Whether a plough wind or a tornado, the winds caused extensive damage throughout the community.

“There were giant trees all over town, just completely down and uprooted,” said Taylor Brooks Ordahl, who lives in the community. “There were houses that were damaged from the trees and some cars.”

The damage was widespread throughout the town. The airport appeared to take a direct hit, with planes tossed around as though they were toys, and hangers flatted by the winds. Power lines throughout the region were also downed, causing a number of outages which utility companies in the area were working to repair.

“One family that I know for sure that completely lost their trailer house,” added Ordahl. “There were campers and u-hauls sprawled all over alongside the road.”

The Blue Moon Restaurant in Plentywood, which is familiar to many from Saskatchewan who have passed through the community, was severely damaged in the storm as well. The front doors were taken completely off, and glass shattering throughout the establishment.

There were no injuries reported at this time in the community as a result of the storm.
