There will be many more smiling young faces on Christmas Day thanks to the wildly successful 1st annual 'Gift of Toys' fundraiser for the Angel Tree in Estevan.

CHAR SEEMAN:

For 12 consecutive hours, CJ1150, Sun102, Rock106 and DiscoverEstevan.com called the community to action and in typical Estevan fashion, they responded with overwhelming support.

Approximately 250 toys were collected, in addition to over $2,700 in cash donations, during the 'Gift of Toys' hosted at Canadian Tire.

"I want to say a huge thank you to Estevan and the surrounding communities," expressed Angel Tree Coordinator Char Seeman just before the end of the fundraiser at 9pm. "It's just overwhelming, the support that we had today.

"We are well on our way to meeting our goal of fulfilling toys and gifts for the 360 kids that are in need."

Seven full truckloads were transported in the command vehicles from the Estevan Fire Department and the Estevan RCMP from the doors of Canadian Tire to the future location of the Angel Tree store inside the new Estevan Fire Hall.

"I'll be honest, I was a little worried on Wednesday, and I kept thinking in my head, 'this community won't let me down,' and they haven't!", added Seeman.

Donations towards the Angel Tree program will wrap up on Sunday. After the weekend, the Angel Tree store will be set up next week for families receiving a hamper so they can pick out a gift for their kids to open on Christmas morning.
